AniMates was created with the underlying goal of giving novice animators a platform to learn more about animation as well as giving animators a constructive setting to bond over a shared passion for animation. Below are the three tasks that we have chosen to carry out in our user study, each of them contributing to the application’s objectives.

Task 1: Create an Animation without Signing in

Creating animations is the primary task of any animation or drawing application and therefore, is a necessary task to test out in our user study. The animation creation page is designed with a simple interface for novice users to understand, which further promotes a beginner-friendly animation space for users. Additionally, once the animations are completed, they could be shared and posted online. This inspires community building among fellow animators, as they comment on the posted animations and provide constructive criticism and valuable feedback to help users improve their skills and technique.

Task 2: Create an Animation with Other Members

Collaborating with other animators is significant in building community because it allows for combined efforts in achieving a common goal. Moreover, the commenting feature of the application can help to improve the final animation. Creating this exchange allows for users to provide constructive feedback among animators and further enhance the quality of animations. Users can also message each other through direct messaging or project messaging to communicate back and forth with each other regarding project matters or to simply connect over common interests.

Task 3: Submit a Created Animation to the Tournament

By signing up for tournaments on AniMates, users can inspire friendly competition among friends and other members, further strengthening a sense of community for those passionate about animation. With tournaments, users may be able to collaborate with others in tournaments depending on the permissions of that given competition. Additionally, participating in tournaments can also provide exposure to a wider audience and foster a conversation among critics and fellow animators, allowing for constructive feedback and skill improvement.

Project has since been through various changes, and can be seen in the document below.
